Phoenix canariensis
Canary Islands.
It is the most frequent palm in Spain. Of intense green leafy top and of columnar thick trunk. Majestic and imposing bearing. The trunk can end up having from 12 to 14 m height, decorated by the scars in geometric ways. Their leaves in mature state measure from 5 to 6 m.
It prefers coastal areas. It is one of the species that resists the cold better. In the winter of 1984-85 with minimum temperatures of 9º under zero their leaves were scorched, but in their first sprout out the plant recovered. It is very rustic and adapts well to all the lands. It resists the drought as well as the sea winter. Used like alignment tree in streets or avenues and like group in parks and gardens.
